Brief: Firehawk's team has been sent to the forested mountains to locate the Smithes, a mutant married couple that the Core knows, but has not been successful to recruiting to the school. The objective is to convince them to come to the school and live their. Hugh Smithe is adept with metals, and Minerva Smithe has healing powers. Apparently, Hugh has set up an intense defense system surrounding their somewhat hidden home.
The jet lowered and released the team, who, once on the ground, didn't see the jet for much longer as it blasted off and turned towards their next destination. Once it was out of earshot, the group found the area around them quiet. It was like a nature postcard, white snow all around on the mountain, and patches of pine forests dotting the landscape. They knew they were within a few miles of the place, but now they just had to find it...
OOC: Start searching! Won't take long. Think about where you could and could not build a home.

Avery, while excited, realized something. She had no skill with tracking, save for remembering what Raiden told her when she played Metal Gear Solid 4. Something about footprints and... Wind direction? She asked the others... "Um... Maybe wind direction? I think there's something about where the wind blows that usually leads to life."

Lynx watched as the Jet took off. She sighed and then turned to Avery and Hien. Lynx chuckled when Avery made her suggestion and started to observe the forest around them. It was very pretty. No wonder a couple would want to live here away from everyone else.
"I think that they would use the trees for protection. You know like a windbreaker. So maybe they are in a glen but tightly surrounded by trees. These pines would be nice for it. Also with all of this snow they would have to resort to a fire to keep warm so we can watched for smoke too. Unless Mr. Smithe can heat metal to warm them. But Mrs. Smithe is a healer so we could look for herbs and things like that. What do you guys think?"

Hein, not Hien!! Looked at the others, it became clear to him that their team was broken due to absenses-- absenses that he and everyone would have to make up for. He wasn't the leader but whatever, he would still make suggestions. "I agree with Lynx, I hate to ask in this child weather... but can you fly up and check for any rising smoke in the wooded area" Hein replied.

OOC: Sorry
Lynx nodded, turned on the spot, unfurled her wings and took off. She smiled as she raced toward the sky. She loved flying. Lynx leveled off once she reached the top of the trees and looked around. Lynx saw a slight hole in the trees and little puffs of smoke coming from there. Excitement raced through her as she descended to Avery and Hein.
"There's smoke and a clearing about a mile away from here." She said as she pointed toward the spot.

OOC: I was kidding, but you did misspell my characters name.. XD
Hein was thankful to have someone with flight on their side, their LEADER, Zeke, had flight but let's not go there. "I'm glad to have you on the team, Lynx.. I wish I could fly. It sure would make things easier.." he said giving a soft pat on Lynx's head as he walked by her to look in the direction she was pointing., before turning back to Avery and Lynx. "Can I ask that you walk with us, Lynx. It would be quicker if you flew there yourself but let's stay as a group for now. ..And Avery, Let's go.."
"We will leave when everyone is ready.."

Huddling into her coat for some added warmth, Avery stated...
"Um... I'm ready. Still, anybody here with decent people skills?"

The group traveled forwards, fairly quietly, although Lynx tried to be friendly in some way. The trio couldn't seem to find social synergy. As they approached the location of the smoke, they did find, as Lynx had predicted, a clearing of forest. However, the smoke didn't appear to be from a fire, but rather a dresser-sized box that mysteriously stuck out of the earth. The form of a man knelt next to it, attempting to the fix the object. However, they were too far away to make out any details.

Hein attempted to approach the man that was kneeling next to the box, it seemed he was trying to fix it or something. Not much was certain at that point, so whatever. "Excuse me, can you help us?" Hein called as he started to feel a chill from the cold, which was odd since he was not dressed for the weather in the least.
Del OOC: Sorry SDS, had to edit this.

As Hein took steps forward and called out to the man, his head jerked around. He hurriedly missing with parts inside the box before slamming it shut. Ignoring Hein's question, he took off running, disappearing over a small hill of snow.
Two minutes or so passed, the three students looking confused. What were they to do now? Then, there was a faint whirring, growing louder. Out from the snow burst four objects that would be tough to identify, but clearly weren't friendly. They were each the height of a small person, and came in two varieties: a mounted thin box, like a large DVD player, with a big slot and a two object that looked like wheels, each one mounted so it could spin vertically. One wheel and one thin box each turned to face the students.

Eyeing the gadgets, Avery surmised that this is probably the defense system. Rather than telling this to her teammates (since she believes them to be smart enough to figure it out themselves) she tells them... "Maybe this is a test. Maybe he's watching. If we don't try smashing them, perhaps he'll decide we're non-hostile."

Lynx smiled at Hein and walked with her team to the clearing. 'What would he be doing here? Maybe it's Mr. Smithe!' Lynx thought to herself when they saw the man. She was shocked at the man's reaction to Heins question. It was a simple question that Hein asked. Nothing suspicious. Nothing to leave for.
She almost flew to catch him but she resisted the urge and stayed on the ground. They needed to stay together. Lynx jumped back in surprise when the mechanical/electrical objects came before them. 'I don't know how to fight! I hope we can do it though.' Lynx looked at Hein and Avery wondering what they should do next.

Hein hesitated at first, were they hostile or were they just here by coincidence. What was he thinking, it was the middle of no where and there was no effort to communicate~ there lives come first; they could apologize later if he was wrong. "Let's destroy them.." Hein stated as he bite his hand hard to cause it to bleed, the blood quickly forming a katana in his hand.
'Avery can't fight against things that are not alive, that I'm pretty sure of. The new girl... I can't use her since she hasn't been trained yet, maybe she will surprise me..' Hein thought as some blood flowed and formed into a solid mass behind his sunken feet above the snow, kicking off it he springboarded and slashed with his increased skill with fighting due to his training at the wheel shaped foe.

The wheel began spinning, and little compartments on it opened up. Out of them popped little triangular shapes that resembled black, metal paper footballs. They flew, like little birds, swooping around at the Hein and Avery. However, their launching point ceased to function and release additional swarming weapons as Hein's blade destroyed it. Meanwhile, the other weapon proved hostile as well, turning and firing rapidly rotating discs at the newcomer.
Oddly, the other two defense mechanisms remained inactive.

As the machines started to attack, Avery rolled her eyes and stated... "Hope this works. Try to go on the defensive though."
Sliding her Wrench into view, she quickly tried to bash at the swarming machines. With her free hand, she prepared a batch of Acid to throw at them. "Guys, watch out. This can hurt..."
She then pointed her palm at the machine firing at Lynx, from which a stream of Acid then began to rush out...

Lynx took off leading the flying objects away from the other two. they swarmed around her making it difficult for her to maneuver by her still persisted. She tried every trick she new. Lynx was able to take out a couple by her tricks but it didn't dent their numbers much.
Once again she did her maneuvers and continued to loose them. She had to laugh when they would smash into a tree. Only a few remained. Lynx did a hairpin turn toward Hein and Avery leading the objects into a deadly dive. Just inches before she hit the ground Lynx furled her wings to catch air and slow her fall so that she could roll on to the ground with out too much damage to herself.

White Rabbit (Lynx) dodged the discs with her aerial maneuvers and Typhus's quick action destroyed the machine. However, as White Rabbit dipped and stopped, a few of the projectiles scraped and cut at her wings as they dove past and hit the ground with great force, disabling them. It seemed the three students were victorious.
The two unmoving and unattacking machines ominously stood like graves to their fallen comrades. Was that it?
OOC: You guys can continue on towards where the man disappeared, but there should be more robotic traps.

Seeing Lynx's new display of acrobatics, Avery widened her eyes in a mix of shock and amazement. Seeing her earlier as an effective scout, this... This is more than she expected. Wanting to give her a hi-five, but fearing that her hand, fresh from an Acid Bath isn't the safest instead just saluted her with her wrench.

White Rabbit stumble up to her feet. She stayed with her hands on her knees for awhile the smiled to Avery and waved back. Taking a deep breath White Rabbit stood tall and walked towards her team.
'Lynx the nobody just saved people!' The thought put another smile on her face as she walked in the direction of the man's flight.

OOC: Its hard because this one only has 3 participants (and me NPCing). I was waiting for them, but I guess I'll move them along.
The group only made it a few more steps before they encountered another set of defensive measures. The side of a mound of snow opened up, a sliding door, and out of flew two three wheeled vehicles, each about the size of a backyard grill. They were outfitted with odd-looking cylinders that were clearly weapons. One of them turned at White Rabbit, and began to glow red before firing out a jet of pressurized water. The other charged at Avery.

The boiling hot water hit White Rabbit with enough force to spend her flying back wards and knocked the air out of her.
'Well that was a short moment of triumph.' She thought. Gain her breath back she tried to stand up but she was knock down again.
'This is going to be fun. NOT!' This time she stayed down to see what the mechanism would do.

OOC: Sorry, I thought initially that the Rabbit only appeared to Lynx.
Seeing the machine, Avery attempted to sidestep out of the way. This one sure is paranoid. At this point, he's either paranoid or he wants to play The Most Dangerous Game. Still, she's currently losing patience with all of this, firing a bit of acid at the machine that just tried to attack her...

The water shooting cannon whirled around, turretting its water cannon to fire a jet at Hein. The water sprayed out with enough force to knock the teen backwards, just as it done Lynx.
Meanwhile, the other machine's cylinder began to glow blue before firing out a compact whirlwind of frigid air. Avery's acid was shoved to the ground, little ice crystals burning off it as it melted through the snow and left a small hole. The cylinder turned menacingly towards the masked antihero.

Lynx saw that the machine was now going for Hein. She had a flash of panic go through her .
'Oh no! What do I do! I don't have a weapon! Okay breath get up slowly and look for something ot use.'
Every so slowly she raised herself up to a crouching position. Lynx was extreemly surprised at what the other machine could do. Lynx tore her eyes away from the scene to look for something to use as a resonable weapon.
