"Yes please stop Mr. Smithe." Lynx implored. She was frightened by Avery's reaction to the smoke and was alarmed to see the green smog coming from her. "Help her!" She said speaking to no one in particular.

"See, they are already trying to poison us!" Mr. Smithe accused, pointing a shaking finger at the smog eminating from Avery, but he was quickly dismissed by his wife.
"Oh nonsense, your smoke is just causing her powers to act up. Now stop that infernal smoking, please. You know I don't like it when you smoke in my lab," she chided without even looking over at him.
"I'm not in your lab," he replied childishly, and perhaps playfully, but his wife didn't seem interested in playing. She shot him a glare that left him grumbling and looking at his feet as he shuffled out of the room and backt to his own lab. She turned back to her new patients.
"Ah, where were we?" she asked with a smile.

Zek sighed and stepped forward. His group had pretty much flopped and weren't doing anything, "Hey, Smithe," He spoke bluntly to the woman, "We were sent out here by New Haven to ask for your support. We could use an answer, fast," He crossed his arms and tapped his foot, looking around the laboratory.

"Our support?" the woman asked, startled by the boy's suddenly found voice. It had felt like he wasn't even there, his silence making him invisible, but suddenly he was blunt and forward with her. She didn't like this boy, he seemed rude compared to the others.

Feeling slightly better, Avery tells her... "Yeah, <Cough!> We really are just students from the New Haven Academy. Our teachers are The Core (most of them anyways) and we're just here as diplomats... Also, don't worry about the smog... It happens, but it's nothing too dangerous usually."
She also noted how quiet Zek has been throughout. If he's the leader, then he had better not had been using them as meatshields. Damn this team and their angsty loner ways. At least Hein, for all his vampiric traits hasn't started sparkling in the sun.

Lynx didn't like how Zek approached Mrs. Smithe's question and gave him a look. 'Some leader he is.'
"We would really like your help. We as students could learn so much from you both." Lynx smiled.

Minerva actually seemed a little taken aback by Lynx and Avery's statements. They were here for them?
"Whatever do you mean? We're not teachers, and we're certainly not superheroes. What would The Core want from us?" she asked with a laugh, as if they were just being silly kids. She knew, deep down, they weren't lying. They, despite looking very different, had gotten here. They had gotten through the beaten up security system. They knew who they were. Mrs. Smithe knew they were telling the truth, but she also knew how her husband would react: badly.

"Your husband seems pretty good with machines and Nurse Utkin ain't gonna cut it in the long run. We need some fresh blood to help out the school. Now are you in or out?" Zek asked impatiently, staring at his teammates with disdain.
The question wasn't a hard one and as far as he was concerned, the school wouldn't have sent them here unless they thought this couple could actually be recruited. His teammates could act coy if they wanted to, but they were only wasting time and effort. Either they wanted to help, or they didn't.

Although she's sure diplomacy wasn't like this, Avery was sure Zek has a point there. He was probably impatient and just wanted to get this over with to be alone and do whatever he does though. "Well, sorry for the lack of manners, but we really need help. I'm sure the Charles aren't bad people and are the peaceable type of mutants that want peace between species and won't make you do the morally ambiguous stuff. I know we didn't make a good impression on your husband and he probably does have decent reasons to be paranoid, but still..."

She finished her healing, and her hands returned to their normal color.
"I'll have to convince my husband..." she said nervously, biting her nails in a moment of lost composure. She procrastinated a moment before leaving the room in a near-huff. It was only a few seconds later before the students heard Mr. Smithe's "WHAT? Absolutely not!" and the subsequent efforts of Mrs. Smithe to convince him. Her pleading voice could be heard, although not all of the words distinguished.
Some minutes passed, leaving the NHA agents awkwardly sitting in the "doctor's office", Mrs. Smithe's lab. However, when she returned, her expression didn't give away her results.
"I'm going with you," she said flatly, going to a monitor and pressing some buttons. She'd need to upload her files and get new equipment...

"Are you sure you want to leave him?" Lynx said. 'This woman is sacrificing so much just for us.' Lynx smiled slightly.
'I don't know if I would be able to do that...leave those that I love. I guess I did but this is different it's her husband!.'
"Thank you Mrs. Smithe. Will you be okay?"

Whispering to Zek, Avery tells him... "This is going to be really difficult to explain to Firehawk. We should've asked him for something to show we're legit..."

"You can't go! I forbid it!" came the boisterous and baritone protest of Mr. Smithe as he stormed in.
"They need us! The Core will protect us!" she pleaded.
"No, that place will be attacked as soon as others figure it out!" he countered, jabbing a finger.
"Not in front of the-"
"THEY KNOW!" he cut her off.
"I'm sick of hiding..." she replied meekly. He immediately softened. It dawned on him. The moment was oddly personal for being directly in front of the new acquaintances, and it was easy to see both felt sheepish about their ourbursts. Mr. Smithe put his arms around his wife, and they consoled each other.
"We'll need a lot of things there," he sighed, obviously conceding.
"But we can do it. And it'll be worth it," she told him with a smile.
OOC: You guys are done, you can post reactions and finalize the thread...

"Good, mission accomplished as far as I'm concerned," Zek responded, uncrossing his arms. He took a few steps toward the exit, "Good job team, try to pick up the pace next time though. I won't always be here to carry you guys through the mission," He sniffed, ready to take all credit for the recruitment of the Smithes.
Nevermind the rest of his team's work in actually getting there.

Lynx smiled at Mr. and Mrs. Smithe. She was happy that it worked out. "Thank you again!"
Lynx harumphed at Zek as he left. 'Sure it was all done by him.' She sniffed and got up to help the couple and wait for Firehawks.

Quite peeved at Zek's little comment (considering that he was apparently just hiding around while the others were attacked by robots and whatnot), Avery gave her a false salute with the middle finger, saying... "Why of course, Oh noble leader. We must serve as better meatshields next time."

OOC: Nobody noticed Smithe insinuating that the school would likely be attacked one day? =(
The Smithes gathered what they could of their supplies, noting they would have to come back. While Mrs. Smithe prepared some snacks from the kids, Mr. Smithe returned out into the cold, and attempted to repair the damage they had done, and the repairs he had yet to make. He'd want this place protect were anyone to stumble onto it. There were plenty of valuable documents and lots of tech still within its walls...
Another half an hour passed and the familiar roar of the black jet could be heard. Firehawk landed it awkwardly, and instructed the students they didn't have much time. Everyone, including a grumbling and complaining Zeke, helped load the Smithes stuff onto the jet.
"Thank you, Walt," gushed Minerva, like Walt was just another one of the kids.
"You're welcome. I trust you still remember your code names?" he half-joked.
"Of course!" she chirped in response. Mr. Smithe offered a kind nod.
"Welcome back...sort of...Anvil and Salve."
MISSION END
