Mark got off the bus and wasted no time grabbing his things, "You won't mind me going up to my room early, right?" He put his hands on one of the teacher assistant's arm. Before the assistant could turn to see who it was, they were already under his control. The woman merely nodded and turned to usher more of the freshmen along. Mark returned to his room, setting down his one bag.
All Mark had brought to New Haven were a few items of clothing, a laptop, and his iPod. He looked out the window at all of the other teenagers who took in the sites, "There's not even any interesting powers in the new classes," He sighed. As usual, there were a few elementals, people with heightened strength, speed, and/or senses, and then the downright freaky ones.
"Hopefully a few rich ones are here," Mark smirked. His favorite pasttime at the school was conning people at things like blackjack, coin flips, dice...anything that could make him a few bucks to buy stuff when he went into the town. It took him most of his freshman year, but it's how he got his top of line laptop.

Sweat dropped from Raines forehead. He slapped a pal against it, and then leaned back in the chair. The worst he excepted from Ace was a fight, like a dominance type thing. This would be an interesting year, albeit a stupid one.

“Move losers!” Jennifer caroled flicking her fingers out as the sea of students seemed to part for her. Chloe airily followed behind, every now and again giving a bored wave to whoever called out her name.
They made their way through the grounds when Jennifer suddenly slipped on some ice. She shrieked as her feet came out from under her, but quickly flipped onto her stomach and shot into the air before she could hit the ground, “That is a student hazard! I could have died!” she whined, “Where are the janitors?!”
Chloe rolled her eyes and continued on, not even waiting for Jennifer to come back down. She made her way in the auditorium and stopped at her preferred row. She cleared her throat expectantly and a few girls jumped up and scrambled out the way.
“Thank you,” Chloe drawled before sitting down. Her little gang followed suit, taking seats next to her and simultaneously pulling out their phones. Chloe, however, already looked bored…or scratch that, more bored than usual.
“Seriously, water in the hallways!” Jennifer continued her tirade as she took a seat next to Chloe, “What is this school coming too?!”
“Oh shut up, Jennifer,” Chloe mumbled under her breath as she flipped her hair back and crossed her legs. She had already began calculating their great escape from Orientation, and damn it, it would go a lot smoother if Jen would stop bitching about ice.
"I will not shut up! I want my attorney! My parents donate money to this school!"

Drake got his things off the bus and walked over to a near by shady tree. He stretched and then stood back. He looked at his shadow and began to concentrate. His shadow then moved towards the tree's shadow and they collided. He then started to shake and it caused the tree to shake. He smirked, retracted his shadow and smirked. "Getting better..." he said to himself. He gave it a minute and then made his way to the auditorium.

"No, I only met him on the bus, he seems pretty cool," Theo said to Calvin, laughing, "Little bit of a cocky tool, but I'm sure he's harmless!"
He gave him a firm slap on the back, his grin wide.
"Nah, I'm good Ace, I wanna see what this is man. What if its something awesome?"
-----
"If you're hearing this, you're a student at New Haven Academy this year," chirped a voice into the brain of every student in the academy, including those not at the meeting, and it continued cheerfully "and that means you need to be in the courtyard. There's lots of new announcements this year, so be sure to pay attention, or Professor Stylianos will get to give you detention, and you know how he loves that!"
-----
OOC: This is my way of saying BE AT THE MEETING long enough to hear the announcements. They will be long, and but you should at least peruse them.

The young pink haired girl quickly scrambled off the bus, grabbing her bag from under and looking around, almost in a panic. "Drake?" she called out once, taking a few steps forward with her bag slung over her arm. There seemed to be no sight of him anywhere. He ditched me again... she fumed to herself, letting out a quiet sigh before rejoining the group of students piling into the auditorium. She dropped her stuff off where it seemed like she was supposed to, and then started walking towards the seats, looking for Drake the entire time. Still, she didn't see him, so it seemed like she would just have to sit with someone else for the time being. Looking around, it seemed like most of the seats were already taken, so she already didn't have many options...
Out of the corner of her eye though, she spotted some people she recognized on the bus; the boy who looked like had been in pain for some reason earlier. Reluctantly, she started to walk over to where he and his friends were sitting, stopping just next to him where an empty chair was.
"Hi," she spoke up shyly, a small smile appearing on her face without her realizing it.

"Hey there," Theo jumped in, somewhat ignoring her shyness. He did catch a hint of a smile on her face, and he wondered if it was in reaction to Calvin, "I'm Theo. This is Calvin." He bowed in an exaggerated motion, his arm sweeping across him.

Mark groaned and trudged down to the auditorium. He sat down in the middle, hoping to avoid detection, "New rules? If they ban gambling I might as well walk back to Vegas," He muttered as he played with a few of his cards. This stinked. Whenever they made more rules, it was to make a happier place for the freshmen, or some rich kid complained enough.
"This better be over quickly,"

Drake walked into the auditorium and looked for Fayth but couldn't find her. "I hope she doesn't think I ditched her again..." he said to himself. He then walked over and leaned against the wall near Chloe. He gave a hello nod and looked up at the stage. He really hoped the new rules wouldn't suck to bad.

OOC: Long, OOC cliffnotes at the end for what this means for you
-----
There was an odd juxtaposition between the school - with its establishment, tradition, age, and formality - and its new inhabitants - the students. The grounds were lush and fresh though, like the new recruits. Green, colorful, and well kempt. Well, maybe the kids weren't so well trimmed.
The students were ushered to their seats by the bus driver. Once they were seated, their chatter began. People wondered who would speak, what would be said, when they would commence with their schooling. They became quieter when an elderly couple took two seats in the front on the left side. With them was a teenage boy who defiantly sat next to them and pouted. It was only about a minute later that they arrived. Dressed in formal wear, smiling, offering friendly nods to the students. One kid started clapping, but no one else followed and he immediately stopped, embarrassed.
One man walked to the podium. A cream suit and red tie went well with his dark hair and ruby tinted sunglasses. His broad shoulders were revealing of his size, but not the muscles hidden beneath. He nodded to the old couple, and then cleared his throat. He commanded attention with his presence, and the students all fell silent.
"I'd like to welcome you all to the New Haven Academy," he began, gesturing with a wide wave to the students, which extended to the grounds.
"For some of you, this is your first trip, and for others, your second. A few of you have visited more often." He winked at the pouting boy up front, and he responded by jerking his face away in disgust. The man nearly laughed into the microphone, but turned it into a cough.
"Some of you already call it home, including one of my associates,"
He gave a gracious gesture to a girl who looked like one of those sixteen year olds with the babyface of a 13 year old. She had ridden the bus without saying a word, on top of the wheel well. She had seemed shy, sitting next to a color-changing asian boy. She rose from her seat and walk to the stage. Slowly, as she approached the steps, her appearance changed. She melted into a woman, late 20s, with porcelain skin and snow white hair. She was equipped with a full figure and an uncanny grace. She took her seat with the others on the stage, all the male eyes on her.
"Hopefully, the rest of you will also call it home. I am Walt Winters, your Dean, and your Social Studies Professor. Some of you have been here before, and already know this. You also know about these lovely people behind me, who make up the rest of the staff, as well as my dearest friends. You will be introduced to them shortly, and I have a feeling you will get to know them very well. Before that, I'd like to thank you, but also commend you. There may be a few of you who feel as if you're running, hiding from the real world by coming here. I assure you, it takes true courage to be here, right face to face with who you are. As mutants, the world can be difficult, but dealing with your own demons is even tougher. You are all going to grow up faster than your peers back home, and we are here to help you, guide you, and grow with you. It won't be easy, but I'm confident in our success."
"I'm sure you're all anxious, and I promise I won't keep you much longer. Let me introduce my colleagues. On my right is Anditi Kanti. She's going to be teaching Arts and Music, but she's also a certified genius, so any questions you have to ask her about your studies are fair game."
Walt gestured to an Indian woman, not much older looking than the students, early twenties. She laughed at Walt's flattery, and threw a peace sign at her students. Even the returning students didn't recognize her, as she was that new.
"Next to her is Vladmir Utkin. He will be teaching Literature and Language Arts. He's not as mean as he looks, I promise."
Walt motioned over to the man who had just risen from his seat, raven dark hair covered half his face but what could be seen was disturbingly handsome. His arms were crossed but he motioned a small wave with his hand, his face not changing from a solemn expression.
"Next to him is Jeremiah Samson. He will be your guidance counselor and your biology and chemistry professor, and is an old and dear friend of mine."
Jeremiah was a sizeable black man, but he had a friendly yet firm face that might remind you of your grandfather, if he were 30. He gave a charming flash of smile.
"On my right is..." Walt Winters paused, for unknown reasons, "Phil Crenshaw. He will be teaching specialized courses, changing by semester. You will learn more about this during the semester itself."
A man, perhaps the most well dressed of the group, with his outfit showing a certain classic flare, gave an unenthusiastic salute to everyone.
"Next to him is Eric Stylianos. He will be doing a lot of your combat instruction, or self defense instruction. Don't let him scare you...too much."
He indicated a bulky man with a shaved head. Even in his seat, you could tell how powerful and muscular he was. All he gave was a nod.
"But really, don't get on his bad side. Next to him is Allison Hyun-Lin, your Science and Mathematics professor. Don't let her beauty distract you, she has high expectations."
The Chinese American woman seated next to Mr. Stylianos grinned with a true charm that Walt had just warned his students about. Half the student body instantly had a crush.
"And finally, we have Diane Snow. She will be teaching your Powers course," and again, he paused, letting the idea of "Powers course" sink in. There was a current of excited whispering. He soon motioned for silence, and received it.
"Alright, alright. One final note. While we all have our specialties,, you will often be greeted by guest lecturers and substitute professors. Sometimes, it will be one of us, but other times, some of our fantastic teaching staff, who you will meet later.
In addition, this semester is going to be very different for the school. As some of you may have noticed, we have a lot more students than ever before. The school has never had more than 18 students at one time before, and this year we have 61. While not all of them will be training the same, everyone is expected to respect each other and treat each other as a family. Along with this, those training for combat and field exercises will be broken into teams. These teams will compete for the NHA Marvel Cup (credit to Jeremiah for the name). This will be one of the most important parts of your semester for both your grades and your development. Also, with such a large group, we have to ask that you try to keep extreme power usage to a minimum. No sparring outside of the designated training area, no large power displays. Do not use your powers outside of the campus unless it is absolutely necessary. Please do not leave campus with a staff member's permission.
With all of that dry stuff out of our way, I'd like to tell you, our doors are open to all of you. We were all where you were, with even less guidance than you have, so we understand your situations perfectly. We hope you feel comfortable with us. This semester should be fun and fruitful.
You can all drop your stuff off in your dorm, unpack some of your belongings, meet your roommate, and then please gather in the cafeteria in an hour. Welcome to New Haven Academy, and let us commence the Fall Semester of 2008!"
-----
OOC: Ok, here's what this means.
-The campus rules (these are for IC, break em at your own risk): No sparring outside of the designated training areas, no power usage off campus unless necessary, no leaving campus without professor permission -The main training area is the CATT (Combat Abilities and Tactics Trainer), equipped with an AI affectionately referred to as Cat. -You will be put into teams that will compete in events throughout the semester to win the NHA Marvel Cup. -Everyone needs to pick a gender appropriate roommate. NPCs are fine choices if ya wanna go that route -The student body is 61 mutants, but do not assume everyone is training to join the team -The students know that the professors are part of the team -Anditi AKA Comms is a NEW professor, so even if you're character has been here, they do not know her
I think that's everything. We'll be doing power demonstrations soon, everyone can have a second to pick roommates and fluff a little bit, cause after that, comes team divisions.

Robbie moved into the auditorium but, as one might have expected, choose a seat in a section a few seats away from the main group. There had definitely been some intimidating kids on the bus ride like that boy with the ice powers who's attitude reminded him of the jocks who would give him swirlies for fun or that prissy girl who's eyes seemed to growl if you so much as walked in front of her. All of them were older than he was too, or at least looked a lot older than he was (they were definitely taller). Even the ones that seemed to be nice attached themselves to the other more attention grabbing of their peers, the ones as he remembered, weren't exactly the most excepting at KC High.
He sat almost glued to the stage as the announcements started. It was them! The Core! The greatest mutant hero force on the planet were also their teachers, how cool! Of course all of this was kept inside, only the small curve of his lips were any indication of his excitement. And then he heard it: "Please pick a roommate." . His stomach dropped, he'd have to pick someone to live with for the year. One of those kids out their, who were all at each others throats on the bus was going to be his roommate.

Mark gave a slow and deliberate clap for the professor, "WOOOO!" He called out dryly before heading back outside. As he expected, a swarm of mutants were gathered around a board where their dorm listings were. If he were lucky enough, he'd be the 61st student and get his own dorm, but the odds were against him. Maybe if he used a quick mind control, he could get his roommate to agree to live in the hallway...
"Still," Mark muttered under his breath, touching each student as he passed by. They froze for a moment under his control but regained control after a few seconds, oblivious to what happened and who passed them. Soon, Mark was in front of the board, "Let's see who my roomie is,"

Drake sighed and made his way to the dorm listings along with the others. He pushed a couple kids out of his way with his shadow and made it to the front next to Mark where he gave a hello nod. "Who am I rooming with..." he said to himself reading through the list.

Mark stared over at the other teenager who managed his way through, "Is there a Drake Shadows here??" He called out, staring around for someone. Shadows was a weird name. Hopefully they'd have a lame power that didn't do any damage. If he played his cards right, he could manipulate the kid into becoming his servant without his mutant powers. Of course, he was not above using mind control even if the kid was no push over.

"Theo we're rooming together!" Ace yelled out as he watched the boy walk pass his row -as he continued to sit- to look at the board. Rising from his seat he walked up to the new kid with his hands in his pockets. "I'm heading out to spend a night on the town tonight if you want to join."

Zek looked at all the kids walking off the bus, he had no intention to talk to them, at first he wanted to just observe them, and assuming that kids with powers should be all egotistical and rude, he didn't expect any of them to talk to him either. Sitting casually, Zek was scouting out his classmates.

"So what exactly is your power then? I've seen that shadow of yours do some pretty freaky things," Mark observed, crossing his arms. While he didn't get his wish of a pushover roommate, it could be all right if this guy was any decent. At least he wasn't a high school jock or an emo loner type. Maybe it was because Derek seemed to possess some manipulation skills.

Raines smiled, patting the boy on the shoulder as he scurried over to get his book bag. The two of them walked to their room, in comfortable silence; at least on Raines' part.
When they got there, Raines began to start a conversation. "Where were youborn, Robbie?" He asked, as if he had told the boy already.
